Finale 2009 & Sibelius Competitive Crossgrade Special
Finale 2009 has been released, with a streamlined workflow for dynamics, tempo indicators and other text, more Garritan sounds, more Drumline sounds and multiple page editing. Finale 2009 now supports any VST/AU software synth and ASIO support for Windows users.
If you already own Finale, you will need to purchase the upgrade directly from MakeMusic. However, Sibelius wants you to consider using your upgrade money to make the switch to Sibelius 5!
From now until the end of September, the Sibelius 5 Competitive Crossgrade is only $99 - less than what it would cost to upgrade to Finale 2009. This upgrade offer also applies to Encore users, and if you haven''''t already done so, you can download the demo of Sibelius and try it yourself.

Sequel 2
Steinberg''s Sequel was a big hit when it was originally released. Easy to use, but powerful with some great sounding loops and instruments, Sequel is a great entry level product at a great price.
Sequel is now even better - Sequel 2 (we will avoid jokes about the sequel to Sequel) is now available with lots of new features, including:
- Controller Mode: With the new Controller Mode you can control nearly all Sequel 2 functions with an external keyboard *or* hardware controller.
- Live performance without clicking a mouse: trigger everything from a hardware controller
- Virtual Keyboard: we are glad to finally see this added - it should have been in Sequel 1 :-)
- Track Icons: Sequel 2 lets you allocate a Track Icon to each track. Cute.
- Track Freeze: save CPU power for more tracks and effects! MIDI instruments and effects can use a lot of CPU power - a feature often reserved for only high-end software
- Free Warp and Audio Reverse: warp any part of an audio loop *or* play it backwards
They have also made some updates to the MediaBay, and Sequel 2 now supports Vista Core Audio for low latency without the need for external ASIO hardware.

Band in a Box 2008.5
PG Music recently released Band in a Box 2008.5 with a number of new features focused on their RealDrums and RealTracks technology. RealTracks and Realdrums now take up 1/8 the space that they used to take since they now use compressed WMA files instead of WAV files. RealTracks also generate faster and have a wider tempo range. They''ve added "RealStyles" which allow you to use audio recordings for all instruments in a style instead of MIDI.
Other new features include the ability for soloist to solo over different chords than the song, crescendo soloing, and the ability to save a single part to a WAV file by right clicking.
